The RAILCAT series of battery powered, remote controlled tugs and tow tractors is the initial embodiment of the S.E.T. patented Wheel-Motor drive system into a rail-mounted vehicle.

Using 2 or 4 S.E.T. Wheel-Motors of sufficient power to suit you towing requirements, the RAILCAT will safely and accurately position tram and railcar sets to a tolerance of  +/- 12mm.

Powered by sealed, lead-acid batteries and with an in built battery charger, the RAILCAT provides a low maintenance solution to rolling stock movement whenever onboard power systems are not available.

Controlled by a hand held radio control unit, with and integral ‘Deadman’ switch, the RAILCAT enables the operator to take advantage of infinitely variable speed control and accuracy from any position, even from the wheel lathe pit if required.

Wheel Lathe Bogie Axle Positioning System

Using a S.E.T. RAILCAT, one man can position railstock over embedded wheel lathes, safely, efficiently and with great accuracy. One man coupling of the vehicles can be greatly assisted by additional hydraulics to raise or lower the tug coupling to match that of the rail vehicle.

Bogie Removal Systems

A low profile version of the RAILCAT can be used to remove the bogie sets from under raised vehicles where sophisticated jacking systems are used, similar to those manufactured by British specialist lifting company Mechan. The use of the RAILCAT to remove the bogies can considerably speed up the operation as well as giving many safety benefits by limiting the time the workforce is exposed to working beneath the vehicles.

 Engine Retrieval Systems

A further enhancement to the bogie retrieval system is achieved by using an electro hydraulic scissor trolley for engine retrieval. The engine removal system manufactured by Mechan can take its power from the RAILCATs’ batteries through an inverter on the RAILCAT. The lifting table, manufactured by Mechan, enables the quick and safe removal of the engine, which in turn, is quickly and safely removed from under the raised vehicle using the RAILCAT. Again, the benefits of such an integrated system will not only save valuable man-hours, but also provide much safer working conditions.
